#200 Approach BJJ slowly but surely.

As a teacher of the gentle art of BJJ, nothing is more inspiring than meeting a student who from Day 1 is full of desire and passion to master this incredible art that gives one the ability to control and strangle or break limbs of a larger opponent.

Unfortunately it is rare that new students maintain this newfound desire for BJJ and when difficulty arises they return to the safety of their natural ways. Maybe their girlfriend left them, a financial crisis, or a new baby that caused them to lose sight of their goal. Life happens and we can’t always control it.

Understand that it happens to the best of us and we have all seen days turn into weeks which turn into months and years. Before you know it your shirts are fitting tighter and that urge is no longer there as you sit there wondering what would be if you had simply continued your BJJ path.

What most beginners fail to realize is that Jiu Jitsu or BJJ is a LIFELONG journey. Once you start, you must never be afraid to walk into the doors once again. Sometimes life will happen and take you off your path but you can always control what happens next. Not only will it feel good, but it will feel so sweeter than sitting at home wiping chips off your lap.

Although the fire inside has dwindled it is by no means dead. Like anyone you can pick yourself back up and put one foot in front of the other or arm if you have no legs. When you know from the get go that your eagerness to jump on the mats, and learn every single method of control and submission, will sometimes fade, you can be more prepared to adjust and return once again and pick up where you left off.

You’re never too old, never too bad, never too late and never too sick to start from the scratch once again. -Bikram Choudry
