The sweet smell of gunpowder #106
Due to society and the convenience of modern life it’s easy to forget the harshness and reality of life. Over time we can lose touch with the inner warrior built within us for our survival. Many of us forget that we came from being savvy hunters and to this day we express this aspect of ourselves differently, take for example Kobe in basketball, Jeff Bezos in business, or Post Malone in his music. Though hidden to the naked eye, their greatness must come from a place of darkness. When you hold a loaded firearm for the first time you are exposed to an immediate sense of reality knowing that there is immense power in your hand that can give both life and death. Like all power, it comes with the propensity to go good and bad.
There are a variety of reasons one should learn how to correctly handle a firearm, just as someone “should” be healthy or physically fit but it is not everyone’s choice. Since one of my jobs is to teach women self defense, a properly used handgun is one is something I recommend to those who care about their safety and loved ones. Like most things, education and training is a big part of the solution and learning how to use a pistol or a shotgun properly may be one of the most empowering things you can give someone. It’s also good to remind yourself what it’s like to be a white belt!
“It’s better to be a warrior in a garden than a gardener in a war.” -Japanese proverb
